Ghana's President Dies at age 68

Professor John Atta Mills (Aged 68) the third President of the fourth Ghanaian republic who has been suffering from throat cancer died today at the country's capital Accra three days after his 68th birthday.

A statement which came from his office said he died a few hours after falling ill, but did not give details.
"It is with a heavy heart...that we announce the sudden and untimely death of the president of the Republic of Ghana," it read.
A presidential aide said the Ghanaian leader had complained of suffering pains on Monday evening and he died earlier this afternoon (24th July), Reuters reports.
He had returned to Ghana after visiting the US for medical checks, the news agency says.
Mr Atta Mills was the vice-president of the country from 1997 to 2001, and he was set to run for his second term in December, he has been in power since 2009.
